TOBACCO
|
Brief Description:
One of the most heavily used addictive drugs in the U.S.
Effects:
Nicotine is highly addictive. The tar in cigarettes increases a smoker's risk of lung cancer, emphysema, and bronchial disorders. The carbon monoxide in smoke increases the chance of cardiovascular diseases. Secondhand smoke causes lung cancer in adults and greatly increases the risk of respiratory illnesses in children.
Statistics and Trends:
In 2006, nearly 73 million Americans age 12 and older had used a tobacco product at least once in the month prior to being surveyed. Source: National Survey on Drug Use and Health; http://www.samhsa.gov/.
The NIDA-funded 2007 Monitoring the Future Study showed that 7.1% of 8th graders, 14.0% of 10th graders, and 21.6% of 12th graders had used cigarettes and 3.2% of 8th graders, 6.1% of 10th graders, and 6.6% of 12th graders had used smokeless tobacco at least once in the month prior to being surveyed. Tobacco deaths
Tobacco is the only product in the U.S. that causes death and disability when used as intended the single, most preventable cause of death in the U.S.1
Every year, tobacco use kills more Americans than World War II and the Vietnam War combined. That's more than 440,000 smoking-related deaths every year
Smoking is directly responsible for 87% of lung cancer cases and causes most cases of emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
Nicotine
If it weren't for nicotine, people wouldn't smoke tobacco. Why? Of more than 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke, nicotine is the primary one that acts on the brain altering people's moods, appetites, and alertness in ways they find pleasant and beneficial.

ADDICTION RECOVERY
- COCAINE -
I had been doing drugs heavily for 16 years and no rehab or therapist could change me.
I was too full of toxins for the twelve-step program to ever work on me. I needed to clean my body out so that I could feel normal enough to fight the desire to do drugs.
Dr Baylac awakened me.
I have remained cocaine free now for 2 years (2008)....
