OUR STAFF

"Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat center" was founded in July of 2003 by Dr. Maya Nicole Baylac, a naturopathic physician and psychotherapist. Our staff includes physicians, raw food and Gerson chefs, fitness specialists, massage therapists, as well as therapists specializing in various healing modalities. Below are some of our permanent staff.
Dr. Maya Nicole Baylac
* Dr. Maya Nicole Baylac is a naturopathic physician and a psychotherapist. She specializes in detoxification with raw food diet, water and juice fasting. She has experience with Natural Hygiene detoxification as well as Gerson Therapy and Ann Wigmore Therapy.
* As a psychotherapist Dr. Baylac uses Reichian breath work, Gestalt Therapy, bioenergetics and meditation in individual sessions as well as in groups. She has studied multiple spiritual healing traditions such as yoga and awareness techniques during her years of practice since 1966. In her work, she blends her psychological background and her medical practice in a unique mind/body/spirit approach.
* Dr. Baylac designs and supervises individual detoxification and recovery programs from any type of drug, wellness programs for disease treatment and prevention, weight loss programs, life style changes and eating disorder programs. She uses raw foods, water, coconut and juice fasting during long-term retreats in combination with psychotherapy.
* Dr. Baylac is a professional member of The AANP (American Association of Naturopathic Physician) NHA (National Health Association) & INHS (International Natural Hygiene Society), she is a member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians and has been certified by the Gerson Institute to supervise their regimen of nutrition and detoxification for degenerative disease. She has been certified by IAHP (International Association of Hygienic Physicians) in natural hygiene theory, supervision of therapeutic fasts and raw food regimes. She is certified by the Hawaii State Department of Health to facilitate tobacco intervention workshops
* Dr. Baylac currently practices privately, being director for the Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center in Keaau on the Big Island, Hawaii. The Center specializes in natural raw detoxification, therapeutic fasting and alternative disease-reversal natural programs.
* Dr. Baylac has given presentations on the following subjects
- The roots of addiction
- Child sexual abuse and health
- The benefits of raw foods
- The mental, emotional and spiritual aspect of healing
- Fasting as a transition to raw foods and natural menopause.
- Passion not addiction

Witold Markovitch
A Polish native, Witold aka “Witec” has globe trotted from Alaska to Mexico, Europe and India. Now in residence at the Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center, Witec is a therapist specializing in The Work of Byron Katie, as well as a certified Gerson Therapy aid, and massage therapist.
Malea Joel
I have been licensed in massage therapy for 7 years specializing in myofacial release. With a bachelors degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science I have become proficient in understanding that the pain felt within our muscles is actually coming from the connective tissue, or "fascia", surrounding these muscles. This is where the nociceptors, or "pain" receptors, are located. By releasing this tissue, the muscle within this envelope is allowed to lengthen to its natural position relieving tension and related pain. Working individually with each client, we determine the best approach to help them on their path to health and pain free living. When not working with clients, I assist with office administration at Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center.
Schlomit
I have been working with food since the age of 16, from Yemanite bakery to raw vegan cuisine, it is all made with 100% organic love. I was trained at the Tree Of Life in Arizona as a raw foods chef. Before that I lived in Israel as a massage therapist and teacher specializing in Swedish, Thai massage and Reflexology. Currently I live in an Eco-Village raw foods community in Kapoho where we collectively harvest the foods grown on the land and work towards sustainability.
Jack
A Portland native Jack is enjoying the abundance of the Hawaii winter. He specializes in preparing healthy dishes from raw vegetables and fruits. Some of his specialties include Jackfruit Coconut Ice cream, and the Goji Berry Chocolate tart. Jack has been interested in natural health from a very young age. He has trained at the Tree of Life in Raw foods design as well as many other locations.
